    About Our Hospital

    Kindred Hospital Kansas City is dedicated to providing quality care to medically complex and catastrophically ill patients requiring specialized acute hospital services. Our multidisciplinary expertise in respiratory and wound care is designed for patients who may need longer acute care hospitalization.

    Kindred Hospital Kansas City is a 167-bed, Joint Commission accredited acute care hospital licensed by the state of Missouri. Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance carriers cover our inpatient and outpatient services. Examples of the types of treatments or patients who benefit from our services include:

    Medically Complex

    Patients who require more than routine care, including intensive therapies and nursing care, can benefit from our 10-bed ICU or General Medical/Surgical Unit. These units treat individuals with one or more of the following conditions:

    • infectious diseases
    • congestive heart failure
    • uncontrolled diabetes
    • cardiovascular disease, post-heart attack or stroke
    • kidney/renal failure
    • dialysis treatments (8-bay Dialysis Unit)
    • MRSA/VRE
    • multi-system failure or complications

    Wound Care

    Designed for patients with impaired tissue integrity or those at high risk for complications who can benefit from the care provided by our multidisciplinary wound care team, our three-chamber Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit, outpatient wound care center, and our orthopedic, cardiovascular and plastic surgeons. The services we provide and the conditions we treat include:

    • decubitus ulcer
    • degenerative disease
    • patients requiring flaps, graphs, or amputations
    • burns
    • sepsis
    • cellulitis
    • hyperbaric oxygen treatments
    • catastrophic stage III or IV wounds
    • infected wound(s) requiring long-term IV therapy
    • wounds related to paralysis, kidney failure or radiation
    • treatment of diabetic, venous and arterial ulcers
    • pressure ulcers requiring frequent dressing changes

    Pulmonary

    Specialized care for patients with acute or chronic respiratory disorders who may have tracheostomies, ventilators or require extensive respiratory treatments to maintain normal breathing with or without mechanical support. The services we provide and the conditions we treat include:

    • COPD
    • pneumonia
    • respiratory failure
    • ALS
    • Guillain-Barré
    • ventilator weaning
    • pulmonary rehabilitation
    • metabolic studies

    Medically Complex Rehabilitation

    Patients who may benefit from this program include those who are unable to withstand three hours of intensive therapy a day or who require too high a degree of nursing/respiratory care to be accepted at most skilled rehabilitation programs. This program prepares patients for acute rehab, skilled rehab, or home health rehab services. The services we provide and the conditions we treat include:

    • stroke, CVA or cerebral hemorrhage
    • spinal cord injuries
    • neurological disorders such as ALS or Guillain-Barré
    • trauma
    • head injury
    • joint replacements
